History of West Suburban Medical Center

West Suburban Medical Center

Located in Oak Park, Illinois, West Suburban Medical Center first opened its doors as a 90-bed facility on February 17, 1914. At the same time, the West Suburban College of Nursing was established as a hospital-based diploma school of nursing. By the end of the first year of operation, 1,696 patients had been cared for and 198 babies had been born at the hospital.

With more than 90 years of service to the community, West Suburban Medical Center expanded its service beyond the Oak Park Campus with the development of a River Forest Campus, which includes the Center for Breast Care, Center for Cancer Care and the Center for Primary Care. Today, West Suburban Medical Center serves approximately 12,000 inpatients and delivers over 2,100 babies each year. In addition, the College of Nursing has become a fully accredited baccalaureate nursing school.

In continuing its tradition and commitment to provide quality health care to the community for future generations, West Suburban Medical Center became part of Resurrection Health Care on March 10, 2004. Resurrection Health Care is a community-based not-for-profit organization living out its sacred mission and core values-faithful to the spirit of its Sponsors and motivated by a reverence for life and respect for those it serves. With special attention to the poor and underserved, Resurrection Health Care promotes the health and well being of the whole community with compassion and respectful, high-quality care.
