Applicant Information
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants who are graduates of an accredited U.S. or Canadian medical school must have passed the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) before being considered for a residency position.
- Graduates of foreign medical schools must have a degree from a school listed in the World Health Organization Directory of Medical Schools which is approved by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. Applicants must fulfill all educational requirements to practice medicine in the country where the degree was obtained (or have completed a Fifth Pathway Program), and have a valid ECFMG certificate.
- All applicants must be registered with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and participate in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)
- Please note that our program is a competitive one. We recruit for seven categorical and three preliminary medicine positions.
The recruitment criteria are based on the applicant pool. We review the entire application. However, we have identified the following criteria as highly desirable for the 2010 application review:
- US citizen or permanent resident (green card). No visas.
- Graduation from medical school within the last three years. Current year is preferable, unless you have been actively practicing medicine or in a residency program.
- US clinical, research, undergraduate or postgraduate training in an ACGME-approved hospital in the U.S.
- Competitive USMLE scores; scores should be at least 82, passing on the first attempt, on both Step I and Step II. Step II Clinical Knowledge (CK) and Clinical Skills (CS) results must be received by our residency office by January 15, 2010.
- ECFMG certification (if appropriate) must be current and valid. In the case of current medical students, requirements for ECFMG certificate must be met.
- All applications for 2010 must go through ERAS.
- Application deadline is December 1, 2009.
Application Procedure
- Applications must be submitted through ERAS.
- American medical school graduates should contact the student affairs office of the medical school attended for application materials.
- International medical school graduates should contact the Education Council of Foreign Medical Graduated (ECFMG) to initiate the application process.
- We do not sponsor visas - IMG applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.
Interviews
Following review of all completed application documents, applicants selected for interviews will be contacted to schedule visits during the months of November, December, and January. Notification will be by email. Be sure to check your spam box during interview season.
