Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants who are graduates of an accredited U.S. or Canadian medical school must have passed the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) before being considered for a residency position.

  • Graduates of foreign medical schools must have a degree from a school listed in the World Health Organization Directory of Medical Schools which is approved by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. Applicants must fulfill all educational requirements to practice medicine in the country where the degree was obtained (or have completed a Fifth Pathway Program), and have a valid ECFMG certificate.

  • All applicants must be registered with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and participate in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)

  • Please note that our program is a competitive one, accredited for only eight residents each year. We offer both categorical and preliminary medicine tracks.

Our recruitment criteria are based on the applicant pool. We review the entire application, however we have identified the following criteria as highly desirable for the 2008 application review.

  • US citizen or permanent resident (green card). We do not sponsor visas.

  • Graduation from medical school within the last three years (current year is preferable) unless you have been actively practicing medicine or in a residency program.

  • US clinical, research, undergraduate or postgraduate training in an ACGME-approved hospital in the US.

  • Competitive USMLE scores; scores should be at least 80. Step I, Step II CK and Step II CS (if appropriate) must be passed and reported for final review.

  • ECFMG certification (if appropriate) must be current and valid. In the case of current medical students, requirements for ECFMG certificate must be met.

  • All applications for 2008 must go through ERAS. No paper applications will be accepted.

  • Application deadline is December 1, 2007.

Application Procedure

  • Applications must be submitted through ERAS.

  • American medical school graduates should contact the student affairs office of the medical school attended for application materials.

  • International medical school graduates should contact the Education Council of Foreign Medical Graduated (ECFMG) to initiate the application process.

  • We do not sponsor visas - IMG applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.
